Use it until it fails or until you're resetting it on a daily basis. A Google search showed up about 5-7 years. Some fail sooner, others longer.

Is your modem working ok? If so, like bobseufert said, I would use it until you see issues. Routers however have been improved substantially over the last few years, both in range and speeds. If you are satisfied with yours, don't replace it but if you are looking for longer range or speeds consider the newer units.
I have never seen a modem with an expiration date like drugs or food. Been using mine since 11 years ago.
No such thing as a "use-by-date" for any piece of electronics. You simply use them until they:
a) no longer meet your needs
b) technologies they need to interface with (e.g. operating systems, peripherals) are no longer backwards compatible with the older piece of hardware
c) the hardware breaks or fails
