Installing windows 7 with bootcamp

In discussions with Apple Support technicians, I was led to believe that MacBook Pro machines supported Windows 7 and higher. However, in attempting to install Windows 7 using Bootcamp Assistant, I was informed that Windows 7 was not supported and I had to have Windows 8 or higher.

Is there a workaround to this? Or do I have to obtain a Windows 8 license?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

For BootCamp there’s no work around: Win8 or Win10 are your choices. However virtualization solutions such as Parallels Desktop can run any version of Windows and might be a workable solution for you.
