Apr 29, 2016 6:54 AM in response to TomFotoby Phil0124,Sorry, you can't do it. But if you can download it from a Windows compute, why can't you sync it to the iPad, or even download it directly to it?

I'm a newbe in the apple world and not used not to have an inst source on a local disk as is in the Windows world. In addition the destination iPAD is not mine, I just want to help a friend with provision of a free app on his device. And he does not want to deal with annoying iTunes registration process asking to enter personal data just to allow to download a free software.
I will discard my approach now and will not try to get the app installed on that device.

What registration process? I have been downloading and installing iTunes over 10 years and never registered once.

Including, the itunes Store, the App Store, iCloud, messages, Facetime, etc... In fact, they would have needed to create an account when setting up the iPad. you cannot set it up without one.
If this was a second hand iPad and it is still using the previous owner's account, that can cause a lot of issues later on.
Your friend can create an apple Id without having to provide credit card details if that is what they want.
Creating an account is quick and easy. Not sure what registration process they would be wary of.
Also if they don't have an iTunes account, and you were to install an App using an iTunes account of your own, the app would forever require your account to update.
Unlike a Windows computer, all software on an iPad is licensed for use to a specific iTunes account. unfortunately it is simply not possible to have an iPad without an iTunes account.
