Upload subfolders to iCloud?

I am using Mountain Lion (10.8.5). And my question does not concern photos, unlike most of the posts on this subject.

I have discovered that I cannot upload folders into iCloud, but that I can create folders there and then import documents into them. That's fine. But my problem is that I have a 'Documents' folder on my Mac that contains numerous subfolders, each containing documents. To recreate that tree-structure from scratch in iCloud and then import all documents into their appropriate subfolders would take more years than I am likely to have left on this earth. The same situation also applies to my 'Information' folder. Can anyone please suggest a way for me to solve this problem? Many thanks in anticipation.
