Boot Camp Resizing Question

I have had many issues installing Boot Camp and have resorted to this workaround instead:

I'm actually out of space right now, so what I'm considering is doing this:

Saving the disk image from the current Windows Partition

Opening the disk imagine in VMWare Fusion and resizing it
Deleting the partition

Creating a new partition with new desired size

Cloning the resized disk image to the new partition

Will this plan work, and will I still have to install windows like I did the first time?
