Does anyone know what this fault is? Is this the hard drive failing as the machine has been a piece of rubbish for a long time slow can only really work one program at a time and I keep getting that bloody rainbow wheel all the time.

That fault references the cooling fan for your iMac's hard disk drive. It's not working as it should, which might simply be due to contamination or mechanical interference. Replacing it is not particularly expensive. Fix it before a little problem becomes a bigger one.


If your HD has already suffered damage then it will need to be replaced as well. The symptoms you describe are consistent with HD failure, but other causes are possible.


Back up your Mac's data if you have not done so already.
