Terminal app prompt problems

Hi All,

At some point over the last year, my terminal windows have started acting strangely.

When I open a new window in Terminal.app, I can press return a few times and get new prompts on new lines:

Walters-MacBook-Pro-4:~ woverby$

Walters-MacBook-Pro-4:~ woverby$

Walters-MacBook-Pro-4:~ woverby$

Walters-MacBook-Pro-4:~ woverby$

If I run a program that accepts input, for example python, something changes after I quit that program. I can't get new lines any more by pressing enter.

Walters-MacBook-Pro-4:~ woverby$ python

Python 3.4.4 (default, Mar 2 2016, 03:31:27)

[GCC 4.2.1 Compatible Apple LLVM 7.0.2 (clang-700.1.81)] on darwin

Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.

>>> quit()

>>> Walters-MacBook-Pro-4:~ woverby$ Walters-MacBook-Pro-4:~ woverby$ Walters-MacBook-Pro-4:~ woverby$ Walters-MacBook-Pro-4:~ woverby$

At this point, my terminal is mostly useless, it won't display keys I type, etc.

I have deleted the Terminal .plist to no avail. I have also examines my .profile .bash* etc. They are almost empty.

If I change accounts with Fast User Switching, the Terminal works great on that account.

I'm on system 10.11.4, Terminal version is: Version 2.6.1 (361.1)

How can I fix this problem?

Thanks,

Walter.

Hello Walter,

OS X doesn't come with Python 3.4.4. So, whatever you have installed is somehow scrambling your terminal. I suggest you contact that party for support.
