How to install Malwarebytes?

How to install Malwarebytes?

I've tried for two straight days to get the **** program to load and function properly.

Apple support tried for 3 hours .... nada. Now, I can't even contact them ... at all.

It's looking like downloading El Capitan was a major mistake.

The instructions for the install of the program are seemingly simple, but go around in circles.

The ONLY reason I'm trying to do this is that it's the ONLY idea left from "support" to improve the speed of my computer.

I already have, and use, an anti-virus system ( ClamXav ) ... and it was run Before we installed El Capitan.

Every time I try to run Malwarebytes, I get a message saying that the alias can't be found.

Anyone with a clue about what the **** is going on? This *****.

Thanks.

Why are you trying to install non-Apple "anti-virus" software on a Mac in the first place? Who or what led you to believe doing so would improve its speed?

If your Mac's performance is not what you expect, some preliminary investigation is justified. Installing something is not. Describe what's slow, and when. If you need help doing that please write back for some fundamental troubleshooting suggestions.

The ONLY reason I'm trying to do this is that it's the ONLY idea left from "support" to improve the speed of my computer.

The person who had that "idea" didn't know what to do and was just trying to get rid of you. You should never install any kind of "anti-virus" or "anti-malware" software on a Mac for any reason. That's how you create problems, not how you solve them.

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Launch the Console application in any one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.

Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.

Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

When you post the log extract, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

If you have an account on Pastebin, please don't select Private from the Paste Exposure menu on the page, because then no one but you will be able to see it.

The only reason we tried, to install Malwarebytes is that Mac Support suggested it.

As it turns out, the instructions for installation were not completely accurate.

The instructions for installation from Apple Support were also flawed.

The tutorials on their site only apply to Windows.

One of their support staff finally E-mailed the correct instruction video link.

( Though the sound wouldn't work, we were able to see what they were doing ) .

Might try the install again, might not. Still ****** at the screwup.

Mr. Davis,

Sorry, but all those instructions are just jibby-talk to me.

I'm not a techie ... was dragged kicking and screaming into the digital age.

Not a techie, and don't want to be ... .

Just a cranky senior with minimal knowledge of this crap.

Have enough problems to deal with already.

I was able, finally, to figure out where the mistake was ...

Now, it might get downloaded, maybe not.

At this point, I've wasted so much time, and expended much more energy that this is worth.

Ciao

Unless you have reason for doing so, which you have not yet explained, then I suggest you ignore that suggestion, regardless of its source.

"Mac Support" implies you may not have actually been communicating with legitimate Apple Support. Legitimate Apple Support can be found by clicking the Support link at the top of this web page. Performing a web search for "Apple Support" will return many results, most of which are unrelated to Apple in any way, and whose sole reason for existing is to defraud you. If you contacted one of them, it is quite likely the instructions they provided to you would result in you installing malicious software, in which case it's fortunate that you did not succeed.
