Apr 29, 2016 12:08 PM in response to Lori Beauvaisby elcpu,That is correct. The SE requires iTunes 12.3.3 and in order to get it you will have to update OS X to El Capitan. This is how Apple designed it for better or worse, sorry.

In order to update and sync with iTunes, you need to upgrade your operating system from 10.6.8 to at least 10.8.5.

Apr 29, 2016 12:34 PM in response to Pmintz25by Lori Beauvais,This is a mac mini with a 1.83 Ghz Intel Core Duo. OS 10.6.8 is it. So I have a useless iPhone to play music on unless I buy a new computer. Apple use to support older systems. Time to return it.

Apr 29, 2016 12:48 PM in response to Lori Beauvaisby Pmintz25,What year is your MacMini? You may be able to upgrade to Lion and then Mountain Lion as a minimum requirement.
MacMinis from Early 2009 will work. Keep in mind that the last update for 10.6 is 10.6.8, which came out in 2011, so it is 5 year old software.
Wouldn't be a big deal 10 years ago, but software changes and advances a lot faster than every 5 years.
You can still use the iPhone without iTunes, you would just have to back up to iCloud instead of to a computer.

Makes sense, sadly. I have a new W10 computer but also two old W7 Dells and they use iTunes 12.3.3 without issues. Windows 7 came out in 2009 but somehow there is still support for iTunes.

Apr 29, 2016 1:35 PM in response to Lori Beauvaisby KiltedTim,Apple does support older operating systems.... The current major version of OS X is 10.11. That's 5 major OS releases since 10.6... just how far back do you think they should reasonably support?
