how do I eliminate an old apple id on iPhone 6 when password is unknown and email address is no longer valid

I have an pine 6 with an outdated apple id for which I no longer remember that password. I have a new apple id and I want to eliminate the old id form my phone. How do I accomplish this?

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.3.1

You don't eliminate an old ID. You can sign out of it and sign in with the new one.

Settings>iTunes & App Store. Tap the old ID and sign out. Sign in with the new one. All content is tied to the ID used to make the purchase so you will have to purchase all of your content if this is truly a new Apple ID.
