There is this to do it via wifi

And this is an older app, but if you have an iPad 2 with iOS8 it should work

This site mentions some things that work, but it seems like CF cards are sorta a 'lucky if it works' kinda thing

I want to endorse what Skydiver said about Canon Camera Connect. I use it regularly with my iPad and iPhone and it works great.

Sadly my Canon does not have wifi, but thanks for the links.

So it looks like the forum thread most recent replies point to using an sd adaptor for the cf card on my camera. The Apple Connection Kit sd connector/reader should work. The camera usb connector to the Ipad2 will not work because it drains more than allotted 20% power.
