export mp4 in iMovie

Ok, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here. Every thread I have read in these and other forums for exporting to .mp4 format from iMovie says to use the "Export to QuickTime" option. Problem is, I don't see that option in iMovie 10.1.1. The only seemingly logical option is to use Share->File, but when I walk through the steps it always saves the file as .mov. How do I export as .mp4?

You are right. There is no "Export to Quicktime" option in iMovie 10.1.1. (Incidentally, an update came out today, 10.1.2. No significant changes as far

as I can see. Haven't worked with it much yet.)

When you share a movie as low, medium or high quality it will share as a Mp4. If you share it as Best Quality (pro res) it will share as a .mov. The file size in pro res will be a lot larger, but the quality is noticeably better, and you will have your movie in a format that is better for editing, should you need to do that outside of the original project itself.
