Edit alarm not fully functional - bug?

Since my battery died yesterday and I recharged it, it is not possible to set my alarm to play a ringtone. I can set the time of the alarm, I can test the ringtone and it works but when the alarm goes off, it defaults to one of Apple's presets. I have tested it several times, deleted all my alarms and reset them and no joy. I am seriously peed off. I paid for the ringtones from Apple Store, but now I can't use them. I have seen this question several times on the boards. The answer is always 'edit the alarm'. I have edited and tested seven times this morning. No joy. Is this a bug?
