Apple doesn't recognize my apple id

And when I try to recover the password, apple's website says:
What's going on here ?

I understand that you are being prompted for a password to your Apple ID, but do not know that password. Furthermore, when you try to reset the password for that Apple ID you receive a message that the email address is not an Apple ID.
