Q: Nothing showing in iCloud (yet another problem!!!)

Getting heartily sick of Apple now.

I have inherited an iPhone 5c from my daughter, and have been trying to copy the contacts across from the old iPhone 4. Should be simple, unless of course it's Apple where after spending a short amount of time searching the web for a solution, you can't apparently copy contacts form the phone to the SIM card And then simply copy across to the new phone

So last Night, following advice from various forums, I backed up the contacts to iCloud which took around 2 hours. When I then tried to use iCloud on the new(er!!) phone to pull contacts through - nothing. Checked iCloud - nothing showing even though it was telling me I had used around 3.3 GB of storage.

A few more attempts without success, so I resorted to a third party app which did seem to do the trick.

However, looking at the way that the contacts have been ordered, I thought it should be a simple matter to use one of the fields (Work field) to group the contacts. Second mistake - apparently you can't do this either......unless you use iCloud to set up the groups.

So now I'm in the position of having 300+ contacts, which seem to be ordered randomly (some by first name, some by last name) without any apparent way of being able to access the contacts to sort them......

Any help gratefully appreciated before the  damned phone sails through the window!!!

Many thanks.

    Hi tonymccl,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

From your question, it sounds like you were trying to move contacts from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone 5c, but ran into some issues. It sounds like you initially tried to restore the iPhone 5c from the backup of the iPhone 4 as described in the following article, but the contacts did not restore.

Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup - Apple Support

If the iPhone Operating System was up to date on both devices, you should have just been able to sync the contacts using iCloud as described in the next article.

Get help using iCloud Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders - Apple Support

This, of course, is little help to you now because you used a different application to move your contacts to the iPhone 5c, but it is a good resource to keep for future use.

At this point, it seems like you have your contacts in the Contacts application in the iPhone 5c, but they are not sorted correctly. You can sort by either first or last name first in the settings on the iPhone if this is correct. The next article explains where you can locate this setting.

    Best!
