Just changed Apple ID but can't get rid of the old one - keep being asked for password to old Id and can't get past ot
iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.1
All apps and content are forever tied to the Apple ID used to obtain them.
Unless you delete all the apps and content you downloaded, you'll need the old Apple.
You likely won't be able to consolidate two AppleIDs into one....
Most likely, you'd need to work around the problem with one ID and
keep remembering that one may not be helpful. At some point if you
get rid of the phone, and try to not use that same extra Apple ID it
could be retired at some point in the future.
Start to use the one you'd prefer and plan on being rid of the other.

Apple Support online has iCloud, iTunes, AppleID, iPhone; topics that
can be searched or topics found; sometimes a google search is direct
and other times it isn't. Avoid third party solutions or odd links that may
