Is is an Apple TV 4?

    If so try

    Reset Apple TV

You can reset all Apple TV settings, including your accounts and configuration.

If you’re having problems and Apple TV still doesn’t respond after restarting, try restoring Apple TV to its factory settings. When you restore Apple TV, all data is erased.

Reset Apple TV settings. In Settings Settings, go to System > Reset, then select Reset All Settings.

Restore Apple TV. Do the following:

    • In Settings Settings, go to System > Reset, then select Restore. Restoring Apple TV can take some time, so be patient.
    • If Apple TV still doesn’t respond, disconnect the power and HDMI cables from Apple TV. Connect one end of a USB-C cable (sold separately) to Apple TV and the other end to your computer. Open iTunes on your computer, select Apple TV in the Source list, then select Restore.

Comprehensive support information is also available online at www.apple.com/support/appletv.

If you have a computer with internet access, you can restore the initial software without needing to read the menus, see

Restore your Apple TV through iTunes - Apple Support

Also, this has already come up this year. Try searching this site.

If you're still in setup, try hitting the Menu button repeatedly to go back in the setup process.

If you've somehow completed setup, select the gear (settings) icon on the home screen. Click on the first item (General). Scroll down slowly until you see a flag appear. Click on that item and you'll see the language list. This is described here Change the language on your Apple TV - Apple Support but that item features ATV 4 screenshots and you're using ATV 2.

Others have had the same problem.  If you truely hit chineese by mistake, pressing the menu button will allow you to back up in the setup.  However, others have tried this and it did not work.  They had to return the unit to Apple and found out the software was corrupted.  Apple did a restore and everything was resolved.  Since the latest ATV takes a special cable to do the restore, I would recommend you return the unit for another.
