Using iMac 27 inch 2011 and latest EL Cap. My Apple mouse will not scroll in finder but seems to scroll in other apps. This is a recent fault , I cannot find a string I may have changed to cause this irritating bug. Any suggestions please.

Nice idea but this is a touch type bluetooth mouse - there is no ball and the scroll works elsewhere but specifically not in finder window.
Well you did say "Apple mouse" which just happens to be the wired mouse. 😎
FWIW, I don't know any reason a mouse would scroll everywhere but the Finder. Maybe someone else will have an idea.
Try a slightly different tracking speed in System Preferences > Mouse > Point & Click.
If that doesn't help, while you have the System Preferences > Mouse window open, look at the bottom of that window. Check the battery level.
Sorry reread my reply which may have seemed unintentionally facetious.
Tried that Carolyn battery at 48% and although I changed scroll speed to no effect I was only set at just under half speed anyway. Thanks for your response.

A Safe Mode boot deletes system caches that may help.
Top left corner of your screen click the Apple > Shut Down.
After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds, then press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator.
Once you are in Safe Mode, go back to the Apple menu. From the drop down menu click: Restart
Then try the mouse.

I googled my query before going to Apple community and it seems this is a fault reported by several others very recently
