That you can't use iCloud storage for family purposes is a bummer. I cancelled my iCloud storage plan in favor of Microsofts ONEDRIVE where we can share storage with each family member with distinct security settings. I'll wait for Apple to improve its eco system before considering re-joining.

Absent family functionality of iCloud decided me to cancel iCloud sub.
