Taking a screenshot on mac is less simple than on a Windows computer, but it ain't hard.

Simply press Command + Shift + 3, and a screenshot of your whole screen will appear on your desktop.

If you instead press Command + Shift + 4, you will gain a cursor, with which you can drag a square of your screen, and when you release your mousebutton, it will snap the screenshot and, again, save it to your desktop.
