hi, i accidentally used the american extension cable (instead of the european duckhead) with the european power brick...my MacBook (retina, early 2015) wasn't charging at first but after using the correct duckhead it worked..could i have damaged something? i see one is 120V and the european one is rated 240V or something

As long as the mix up was before the MagSafe connects to the computer you should be fine
I have used my American MBP in European and Asian countries with just an appropriate plug for the wall socket
The MagSafe takes care of the current / voltage conversion issues
It was plugged in..the orange LED was on but it wasn't charging. But after switching the duckhead it worked..
The brick handles 100-240 V so using the European or US cord works equally as well.
