How re-join a split clip?

I split part of my iMovie 10 project into two, and now I want to re-join the clips.

I followed the instructions: While pressing the shift key, I clicked once on the two clips. Then I went to the Modify menu to select Join Clips... but "Join Clips" is greyed out! How can this be?

Anybody have any ideas? The audio on one of the clips, by the way, has been detached (it is still there, but it's detached). Is it possible that this has something to do with it? (In any event, I'd like to undo the detached audio, but can't figure out how to do that, either.)

Thanks for your help!

You can only rejoin clips when nothing has been altered at the join point. Detaching audio qualifies as an alteration. Unfortunately the only way to re-attach the audio is with the undo command. If this is too far in the past and you can't do this you can't rejoin the clips.

But why do you want to re-attach the audio and rejoin the clips? is it just to be tidy? It wouldn't make any difference to the movie when it is shared.

If you want to reattach the audio in your situation, I think the only way to do it is to put the vid clip and audio clip into a new project, share it out, and then

bring the shared movie back into your current project.

Of course, you always can bring in the original clip with the audio attached, but then you would lose your editing. If in future projects you want to do that,

you can select your vid clip in the timeline and then hit Shift-F to display the original clip in the media pane.

I think you still would need to share out both clips and import them back in to have them joined. It may be easier just to start over if you haven't done a lot of editing.

Whenever I do significant editing on a project I always make a duplicate and then work on the duplicate. That way I always have the intact original to revert to in case I change my mind.

I originally split the clip into two because I wanted to crop the second part, so it would look like I was zooming in a particular part of the initial shot.

Well, I decided that I didn't like the crop, so I wanted to join the clips and put the crop in a new place.

Hmmm.... if I were able to lose the crop, and also re-attach the sound, would I be able to join the clips?
