iPhoto crashed while editing one image in an event. Now all photos are missing, but the event shows up as empty. Are these photos recoverable somewhere?

I downloaded my vacation photos today and began editing and adding info to each image in the event. iPhoto crashed during the edit of one image. Now the event folder shows up, but with no images. The photos also do not show in last import, and several (although not all) gopro movies are also missing from the event I created prior to the event with the camera images. Once downloaded, I deleted these images from my camera, so it is very important that I can recover them. Is this possible?
