loud beep before playing audio

I'm using a 2014 macbook air and whenever I want to play audio in safari, a single loud beep plays before the audio. This beep is honestly terrifying and is extremely loud. usually this loud noise is when i play audio on tumblr.

this issue is only on safari and didn't occur when i used firefox or chrome. i have been looking for answers everywhere but cant find anything.

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Make sure you have the correct output device selected in System Preferences > Sound > Output

If that's not the issue, you may have a Safari extension or third party plug-in installed that's causing a conflict with audio. It's easy to troubleshoot.

From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. If there are any extensions installed, uninstall one at a time then quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.

Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect: Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
