Apr 30, 2016 3:44 PM in response to lasserreby LarryHN,Actually there probably is not a better Photo Management program for the price than Photos - obviously you have not bothered to learn how to use it
If you want to find programs use the App store or MacUpdate - that is what they are for - this is to assist people in using Photos - if you have some intelligent questions ask them here and you can get help

Apr 30, 2016 8:52 PM in response to LarryHNby lasserre,Thanks you for the response Larry, but you miss the point, the cost, 'value for money', of the programme isn't the issue. 'Bothering' to learn isn't the issue. I have bothered to learn many other programmes in my life, and "bothered" to learn iPhoto which I found much more intuitive and manageable.
I much prefered another answer that I "bothered" to find that you gave to a more intelligent question. It was less defensive, more honest and much more precise. You wrote, "Photos is a new program and here is a learning curve - and it is not a professional program like Aperture so it is not intended to to everything that Aperture did - It is better than iPhoto and getting closer to Aperture but I doubt that it ever will be Aperture."
Let me 'bother' to learn Aperture. I'm sure it is much closer to what I need. Thanks for the direction.

Apr 30, 2016 9:16 PM in response to lasserreby Rysz,Aperture has been discontinue by Apple - no more updates.
As Larry pointed out, Photos editing options are much more sophisticated that what was available in iPhoto, and can be further added to with third-party extensions. What, exact, functionality are you missing in Photos and looking for?

Apr 30, 2016 9:37 PM in response to Ryszby lasserre,Management. After my last post I did a little research and came up with an excellent review and comments on www.dpreview.com/articles/5074008951/opinion-can-an-aperture-user-be-happy-with- apples-new-photos-software
This page details exactly my thoughts fears and frustrations. I want to be able to store images by year>event (in date order) with labels for each event and a number for each image. Geodata, Faces, Keywords, and Camera used should also be available. Basic editing and the bility to search easily both by entering a term or by browsing. Does this sound like iPhoto? Yes it does. I want to control which photos get loaded from my camera, iphone or other device, add additional data, a label, name, then edit, delete unwanted images and leave. Then when I want to find an image which meets known criteria, 2014, Italy, bathroom wiring, I can find it. Can I really do that in Photos without travelling to my nearest Genius bar (which is 300 km from where I live)?

Apr 30, 2016 9:43 PM in response to lasserreby Rysz,AFAIK, everything you listed can be done in Photos, although not always exactly the same way.

May 1, 2016 10:38 AM in response to Old Toadby lasserre,It perhaps is not so much the features that I can't use as the understanding of what happens when I use them resulting in a certain amount of confusion. For example, I just opened my Mac Book Pro and I see photographs that I didn't consciously put there, but that appeared from my iPhone. I can probably learn how to control that....but when I go to close the Photos it tells me that it is uploading 895 images>>>>>where from? why? who said so? when? I assume these include the bunch I deleted this morning on a different device? I shall have to wait and see.

Exactly as I stated
obviously you have not bothered to learn how to use it
and as to
I just opened my Mac Book Pro and I see photographs that I didn't consciously put there, but that appeared from my iPhone
as stated - you have not bothered to learn how Photos works - you have turned on options without understanding them (and without disclosing what options you are using so we can not help either)
You need to study - for writing good questions here is a place to start - Writing an effective Apple Support Communities question
if you want help on how iCloud works you first have to identify the OS and Photos versions you are using and the iCloud settings in the system preferences, in the Photos preferences ad on each IOS device - then we can explain what is going on -- or use Photos Help - or you can read some of the many hep files online - https://www.apple.com/support/icloud/
