How can I post a link

When I copy a link from the browser control line and paste it into a discussion post, one of two things happens:

1. The software (default editor) looks up the link and converts it to the page title, very slick. When you click on that link in the post, the browser goes to the linked page. This works fine.

2. The link is posted exactly as it appears, "http:// etc." When you click on that link in the post, it reopens the same discussion page. Even though the visible link is correct, the hidden HTML anchor is the link to the current page. How can I post these links so readers can follow them? For example, this http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html will link to the page you are viewing, not the Apple feedback page. Is it because it's not https? The same thing happens with entries in Apple on-line documentation. Is there any way to make these links useful?

The forum is suffering from yet another ailment. I've seen several reports of the same issue, as well as seeing the issue reported to the moderators.

In Chrome you can right-click on the link as displayed, e.g. http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html, and there is an option Go to <displayed text of link> which seems to work even when the link's actual target has been corrupted. The only helps however if the text is a valid URL rather than a description of where the link goes. In Safari Go to address works the same way.

Quite. And every previously posted external link is hosed too, it's not just new ones. The site is completely FUBAR! 😮

Digging a little deeper the problem may only be affecting http links and not https, so if there is a secure route to the content you want to link to, use that.

Compare http://www.apple.com/ with https://www.apple.com/.

These links are getting weirder and weirder...

To wit:

Here is a VERY old thread with links in it that HAVE BEEN changed LONG AFTER their posting (2011) = Therefore, cannot be my theory of "in between {save} and displayed post"

BUT
ON 30Apr2016, I posted two links to outside pages that remain UNAFFECTED by the unwanted conversion.

This message posted this morning has GOOD external links https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7548809?answerId=30145489022#30145489022

- the thread has previous links that point back to this message URL - AND - if you to the thread from the forum link https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7548809 those same links point back to the thread URL

This is wacky beyond belief!!!

EDITadded

The thread links I just posted seem right... I copied them from a NotePad file where I am trying to make sense of this

As M. turing says, https seems to fix it. But that's not very handy for posting general info links, which aren't really bad, although unsecured. Is it because we're logged in, and the system doesn't want us to wander off the property in that state. I recall that some sites (banks) tell you when you click an outside link, and they presumably pull the logged in cookie if you accept. Just musing here...
