MacBook Pro intermittently cannot find ssd startup disk

I have a MacBook Pro that intermittently cannot find an SSD startup disk and once I got a white screen while I was using it. When I turn off the computer and then restart using the option key, the startup disk is there, it boots rapidly and all is well. Any ideas?

Keeping your OS X software up today can help. The latest El Capitan version available is v10.11.4.

Click your Apple top left in your screen.

From the drop down menu click About this Mac

Make sure the Overview tab is selected then click Software Update.

Your Mac may restart several times during the update process. That’s ok.

If your Mac is up to date, a Safe Mode boot deletes system caches that may help.

Top left corner of your screen click the Apple > Shut Down.

After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds, then press the power button.

Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.

Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator.

Once you are in Safe Mode, go back to the Apple menu. From the drop down menu click: Restart

If you see the white screen again, the startup disk may need repairing.

Startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to access the built in utilities to verify and repair the startup disk (if necessary) and restore OS X using OS X Recovery.
