I Have a smart cover for my ipad 3rd generation, can it be used on the pro 9.7?

I would check the specifications. I don't believe you can, there are differences in the sizes. I found this with my iPad Mini 4 versus the original iPad Mini.

The magnets in the iPad Pro 9.7" are in a slightly different place than the previous iPad models. The wake/sleep function will not work.
