Outgoing email doesn't clear

Outgoing email doesn't clear. Tried to send a PDF document from iBooks. It's been stuck in my outgoing folder for two weeks. Still able to send other outgoing emails, but this remains stuck. Have deleted the PDF, no change --- powered off and back on --- ideas?
