What should the startup time be for macbook pro 2012?

I have a Macbook pro mid 2012 and it started to go slow including startup and getting hot (used Elcapitan). With a little advice (and a quick hardware check via my local shop) it was suggested I wipe it, so I have and now installed OS Lion to rule out any issues first. What should the start up roughly be? - it's currently about 30 seconds.

many thanks

Startup times will vary depending upon your hardware and how you have set up your MBP. 30 seconds is very much in acceptable bounds for a Mac with a HDD (not an SSD).

I have the "entry level Mid 2012 13-inch non-Retina 2.5 gHz i5 running 10.11.4 that is upgraded to 8GB RAM; the extra RAM should increase boot times. It also has a rotational hard drive with nearly 400 GB free. I just checked the boot time and it was 70 seconds. It has been roughly the same boot time since upgrading to OS 10.10 in late 2014. I don't think your numbers are out of bounds. My MBP shipped with Os 10.8 Mountain Lion and booted much faster before OS 10.10.

You can see increased startup times if you keep a lot of apps in your User Log-in Items or have unneeded third-party utilities. If you want to safely give us a snapshot of your current config, please download and run this free utility:
