Mac OS X reinstall error

My dad passed away a year ago and I inherited his MacBook Pro. I unfortunately know nothing about macs so I followed to directions to wipe the computer so I could sell it. I am now trying to reinstall Mac OS Pro on it but it keeps getting an error during the computer eligibility verification. Is there something that I am needing to do otherwise?
