What is the maximum usable RAM for macbook pro mid 2009

What is the maximum usable RAM that I can install in my mid-2009 MBP? I am using El Capitan 10.11.3. I understand that it can use up to 16 gb without any problems.

MacBook Air (13-inch Late 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.5)

According to the MacTracker database--which always shows if a Mac model can handle more RAM that its outdated specs state--the 16 GB capability does not appear until the 2010 models. It shows Apple's max 8GB as the only option available for any of the 2009 models.

My preferred RAM vendor Other World Computing confirms MacTracker's statements, as does Everymac.com.

In your discussion title you list a 2009 MBP and in your profile you list a 2010 MBP. As Allan Jones has stated, a 2009 MBP will accept up to 8 GB RAM. A 13" 2010 MBP will accept up to 16 GB RAM. OWC is the best choice for installing 16 GB RAM on the 2010 MBP (as Allan Jones suggests) because they are the only vendor who has tested and confirmed compatibility.

Should anyone challenge that a 2010 MBP cannot accept 16 GB OWC RAM, ask then to provide supporting facts rather than simply quoting Apple specifications.

Ciao.
