Why does my Apple TV ask for a code when using Airplay?

It's probably set to have a code in the security settings. Go to Settings > Airplay > Security and select none or one of the other options

You have enabled Access Control when you enabled AirPlay on ATV. Or it may be in Conference Room mode. You should disable Access Control.
