Hi.
I am able to create a PIP in FCPX. But not able to add any of the effects like zoom, swap or dissolve when the window appears.
These effects are available in iMovie 10.1.2. Wonder if those can also be added in FCPX.
Any help is appreciated.

Effects? Are you talking about transitions? You should be able to apply a cross dissolve. Many transitions, such as swap and zoom, require clips to be inline, so they wouldn't work on a PIP.
P.S. You can use the animation tools to make your own animation to bring the PIP onto the screen.
These prepackaged effects you see in iMovie are not present in FCP X, but that doesn't mean you can't achieve them.
In fact, you have way more control of how things appear, at the expense of having to understand more deeply about you can position, resize, apply transitions, etc. It is well worth the effort if you want to do more than iMovie allows you to.
In iMovie you tell it that this clip is for picture in picture and it resizes, and offers these options for you. In FCP X, you resize, reposition the clip, add effects like drop shadow, add transitions like dissolves, and can do just about anything with that clip, as you would with any other.
