I'd like to have the screen saver in 12 hour format too but can't find a way to change it.

I have my system set up to use 12-hour time format, and this is what I see in the menu bar.

However, the screen saver insists on showing the time in 24-hour format.

Mine shows 12 hour clock with AM/PM.

Maybe you should try clicking off/on the clock option in the screen saver System Preferences

and then click off/on the AM/PM option in the Date & Time System Preferences

and finally click off/on the 24 hour clock in the Date & Time System Preferences

The idea is that this should re-write the .plist that contains the option information, and if they were messed up, this might get them back in sync.

It is worth a shot.
