We have locked the ipad because we forgot the passcode. I have tried several times to "restore" from iTunes. No luck. I am getting error messages on iTunes.......... Is there a link I can get the proper file to upload to the ipad to "restore"? I understand the files may not be there, but that is risk we take. Thank you!!

The restoration of a first generation iPad may be hampered by the fact that this iPad cannot run any iOS version past iOS 5.1.1, which is now quite old.

i am having the same issue. so what can I do?? my ipad works perfectly but is an older one as well. probably 1ST GENERATION.... IT'S REALLY REALLY OLD.
I realize I am quite late, but I had a similar issue with my 1st generation iPod touch! Completely uninstall your current iTunes and install the version of iTunes that was out around the time that your product was released.

That is not good advice. For one thing, the old iTunes, if you could even find it, much less load it, may well predate the operating system and/or computer it would be used on.
