MBP won't start up

The computer was shutdown during the installation of new software.

When we attempt to boot, it will begin to start up, but just stops around half way through the startup process. I tried booting into safe mode, but that didn't work. Next I tried repairing the disk, but it said the disk was fine. Any help you can offer would be appreciated!

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4), (Early 2011) i5 13"
