I have an Apple TV, 3rd generation. I have not been able to figure out how to search for apps, or find additional apps. Everything I can find online, shows an app store icon, which I don't see. The device says my software is up to date.
The third generation Apple TV doesn't support downloadable apps.

The exact apps/channels that are available on ATV3 vary by region, but they are all on the device already. You may optionally hide some of them.
There isn't an official site to view what is in the ATV4 app store but this site scrapes the store charts: http://tvos.emil.click/ (The forum software currently has an issue with http links so copy the text of the link and paste it into your address bar.)
