When it comes to Saving, and Storing (storage), how should I save my files???

Hello to all, Well I just recovered my files from a External Hard Drive of mines, and I just would like to kno the best way to save or store your photos, videos, and files. I do a lot of video production, and audio production, and I was thinking that I should save straight to the external HD, or should I just do a back up of my files once a month? Any advice?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

The best backup options are Time Machine, already installed in your MBP. It runs in the background while you do your work on the MBP. Here are some specific details:

The second option is a clone, specifically Carbon Copy Cloner:

This will have to be user activated. It will create a boot drive that can be used immediately if the internal HDD fails. It provides for incremental backups and will have the recovery partition included.

Two backups are better than one, especially if one backup fails.

Ciao.
