Apple Mail locks attachments

Files in the trash bin that I've sent via e-mail before, can't be deleted until I restart mail app (or reboot).

I believe that never happened before until I upgraded to El Capitan.

Any idea how to fix that?

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)
