Using 2 external hard drives

I want to connect 2 external hard drives (OWC Mercury Elite Pro) to my iMac. I will use one for photographs, and the other for backing up the iMac. Both hard drives come with FireWire cable, also USB 3. Is it possible to connect the two drives one to the other with fireware, or do I need to connect one with firewire and the other separately with USB? I would like to get the speed of firewire for both if possible.

Thanks,

Martha Lyle

Yes, you can daisy chain up to 70 devices with firewire. Plug one drive into the firewire port on Mac and the second in the first drive's unoccupied FW port.
