Unable to open any of the MS Office Applications for Mac, this has started happening after my recent update to El-Capitan. On opening any application of MS office, the launching small window shows "Updating font menu" and then shows a crash report. Suggestions to fix it?
MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

My employer said basically that 2011 is not compatible with El Capitan, and that we should upgrade to office 2016 before installing El Capitan.

Office For Mac 2011 is compatible with El Capitan (although I don't think upgrading is a bad idea). There were originally some issues with 2011, especially a major issue with Outlook when El Capitan was first released, but Microsoft has issued updates that resolved them.
