Brand-new MacBookPro... built a year and a half ago?

I just bought a MacBook Pro from the apple store in tyson's corner, VA this month of April 2016. The specs indicate that this was an early 2015 build. Seems to me like I've missed out on new technology. I'm pretty miffed about it. Any similar experiences?

I do not believe the 2016 machines have been released yet

So what you are getting is "at-the-moment-top-of-the-line" computer which is a 2015 model

From the specs you mention it is a pretty good machine (I have one myself)

As you know you have a 14 day no questions asked return period should you wish to return the device

May I ask what you intend to use it for the most? We may be able to provide some insight if this configuration will work for you if that is what you are looking for

The only "newer" models out have been the 15" models, that came out in May 2015, whereas yours came out in March. Hardware is the same, only difference is one bought today will come with El Capitan, while one bought last year when the model came out had Yosemite. When new hardware is coming out is one of the unfathomable mysteries of the Universe.

The computer you have appears to be one of the present production cycle;

the numbers you see are the product cycle and not the manufacture date.

Introduced: March 2015

Discontinued --

Model Identifier: MacBookPro12,1

Model Number: A1502

EMC 2835

Order Number: MF839LL/A (2.7 GHz with 128 GB storage) MF840LL/A

(2.7 GHz with 256 GB storage) MF841LL/A (2.9 GHz with 512 GB storage)

You could see the week, year and month, etc of build manufacture in some

of the online Serial Number Lookup sites. Not sure of their security. Do not

post the serial number in your posts, that would be deleted by a Host.

The generally higher-spec MacBook Pro 15-inch models are set apart from 13-inch.

To compare their specs see everymac.com; or get database app from Mactracker.ca

In any event...

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂

thanks for your reply

actually mine came packed with EC so go figure...

Spoke to Apple Care this morning, they explained that the unit could've been built two months ago, but that yes, the model dates to early 2015 and I should not worry.

ah well... not going to worry about it anymore, too busy. I just hope I got what I paid for. But Apple is pretty fair and square so...

thanks for your responses
