Garmin Glo won't work with iPhone or iPad for Navionics App

I am able to get a Bluetooth connection between my Garmin Glo and my iPhone and iPad, but am unable to get the device to work with my Navionics app.

I understand this has been a problem with IOS 8.2 - and must be with later versions as well.

Anyone managed to find a way to make this thing work?

iPad Air, iOS 9.3.1
