iMessage read notification

I Noticed on my devices (iPhone 5S 9.3.1; iPad Air 9.3.1 ; MacBook Pro 10.11.4) that read message notifications changes from "read" to "delivered".

How can it be possible? There's any trick for do it or is a bug of new SW?

This issue does seem to recur sporadically as seen by the discussion threads posted below

I am not sure a satisfactory reason or fix has been found
