Q: The iPhone “iPhone4S” cannot be used because it requires a newer version of iTunes error

Here is my scenario:

After breaking my iPhone glass I did a backup to the cloud and to my MBP OSX 1068, took the SIM card and send to repair.

Got it back with this error message, when trying to restore my data:
"The iPhone “iPhone4S” cannot be used because it requires a newer version of iTunes. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes."

Any clue ? How to solve this ?

Your iPhone now has a reasonably current version of iOS (iOS 9...) which requires a reasonably current version of iTunes (iTunes 12.3...).

OS X 10.6.8, which is now five years old, cannot support such new software (iTunes).

Upgrade your OS X.

Sounds like the device you got back is running iOS 9... That requires iTunes 12.3, which requires OS X 10.8.5. You will not be able to connect that phone to a Mac running 10.6.8.

You need to upgrade OS X.
