I've got a ton of home videos on Apple TV - most of our son. With another kid on the way, I expect there will be many, many more and having to scroll through 100+ videos is a challenge. Is there a way to sort or sub-categorize these videos (by year, for example)? I'd love to clean it up and make it manageable. Thanks.

Assuming you have them in iTunes...
If so, select the video in iTunes and pick get info. There are several panes to this info box, but you can actually change the type to TV series from Home Video and even group according to seasons. I think it would be cool to create a series named after your son and then group the videos into seasons and name the episodes. They even have episode descriptions you could type in details of the video.
It will take some work but I bet your son and you will be impressed with the final results.
Note: Make sure you make the switch to TV series first, as it updates all the other panes to include the appropriate fields.
Note 2: When you do switch it to TV series it will now appear under the TV series category so don't panic when it disappears from home videos. You can switch it back if you change your mind...
Something else you can do if you want to keep them labeled as Home Videos, is to create playlists on your computer. There should be an option to access playlists at the top of the Home Video section on the AppleTV. The playlist can be organized just like it would be for anything else. As long as the videos are dated you could easily put them in chronological order or you could just click and drag them to whichever order you would like. And you could also put a video into more than one playlist. Of note, it you added a bunch at once, the Date Added feature won't be of much use, but you could go in and add a Release Date to each video to show when it was recorded.

I have almost 400 movies and a grandchild on the way. I would like to be able to sort them myself. Each video has Preview, Buy/Play, Wish List. Please add sort and give a dropdown option to select the category. Thanks!
