Hi there, whenever I download an image, from anywhere, it is saving as text edit, despite saving as jpeg. How do I stop it saving as text edit?

Open finder and right click on your jpg file and select Open With. It should show Preview (default).
The default can be changed by clicking on Other and selecting another application to open the file.
And if you enable "Always Open With" then any jpg file will now open with the new application.

Hi Barney, i'm saving as .jpg but it says its a textedit document. Then if I open with Preview and select 'always open with' it says it cant open.
What is the extension? I'm not sure how an image could be saved as "text edit?"
If it has a jpg extension, but an icon for TextEdit, select it in the Finder, Get Info (cmd-i), then set it to open with Preview and Change All.
Do you have a link to an image to demo the problem? A file should save to whatever is listed in "Format".
If you rename the file without adding the extension it will save as a generic document.
I didn't know Preview had that option when you open something.
How about when you set it as I suggested?
