Q: AppleTV 4 loosing connection to shared iTunes every time it turns off

Apple TV 4 can't reconnect to my Home Shared iTunes on Mac mini. This happens every time after Apple TV sleeps or turns off. It "sees" my iTunes library, but never succeeds in reconnecting - the cog wheel just spins forever.

The only way to resolve this that I found is to reset Apple TV by disconnecting the power cord. Once it relaunches the connection is immediate.

Any easier ways to deal with this issue?

Mac and ATV software is up to date.

Apple TV (4th generation), tvOS 9.2

I don't have a Mac, but I have found that when I have an issue with Home Sharing, restarting iTunes generally fixes it. Takes less time than restarting the AppleTV. I know not a great solution to something that shouldn't be happening. I also found the restart is really hidden in the AppleTV 4 menu. I don't have it on right now, but it was not intuitive. Might be easier than unplugging it should restarting iTunes not work.

Yes, restarting iTunes used to work for earlier ATVs and software, but makes no difference with the current set up. Only resetting ATV helps.

Doing that, as you noted, is time consuming and a headach, that's why I thought I'll ask for help.

    Thank you.

Since restarting ATV fixes it, it sounds like the rest of your setup is working fine. This may be another variant of the problems others are reporting on waking from sleep. You should report it at https://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html just to add weight to the number of complaints.

Ugh, that is annoying that restarting iTunes no longer works. I have run into my own new way of software working that is annoying: It used to be having interference on wifi would just result in endless buffering, but now it locks up the ability of the AppleTV to access anything through Home Sharing or the store without restarting (not sure if any of the apps would work properly as I was being pressured to get the movie working again). I ended up restarting everything, but it seems like for the future that perhaps just restarting the ATV is all I need to do and not the router, modem and PC.

Filed a bug report on this, but I'll file via the feedback form as well.

    Thanks
