Notes app unusable

I would really like to use the new notes app but I encounter an issue with it being extremely slow. Whenever I open the app on iOS, OS X or iCloud.com I have to wait several minutes before I can do anything with it. It just synchronises almost constantly and the app freeze on me if I try to do anything with it. Even when they are no notes in it.

At first it worked fine with the update to the new version, but after a while the issue started. I believe that something is corrupt in the "database" of the notes app. Reason I think in that direction is that at some point I removed every notes from it and cleared the recently deleted folder. Once done I still could see an attachment in the app, while there were no notes.
